Remote Executer is used to execute a command line on the client machine from a remote session on the Citrix or Remote Desktop Session Host (RDSH) Server. Using this utility, user can launch any program with parameters on the client side. This program can be also configured to redirect url (http, https, ftp, ftps) link from server to open on the local machine.

There is no security risk because the communication between the server and client side is done through a Virtual Channel inside the current Remote Session (Citrix or Remote Desktop Connection). Command or URLs can be sent only from server side to the local machine within its active connection. Remote Executer cannot be used alone, neither from sever or from client side, to send command (or URL) to other machine on the network, except the current connected local PC. Citrix or Remote Desktop Connections are usually (and must be) isolated in a private and protected network with VPN and with MFA. 

This utility program provides similar Citrix XenApp and XenDesktop "Host to client redirection" feature on RDSH Server (RemoteApp), for example:

• Redirect url (Host to Client URL Redirection) or any protocol (http, https, ftp, callto, tel, skype, etc...) to open on local/client machine
• Redirect Hyperlinks to local with the possibility to filter out specific links with Black List or White List
• Redirect url from inside an Outlook email or Word (Excel, Acrobat Reader, etc) to local machine
• Redirect mailto from remote session (Citrix XenApp or RemoteApp) to create new email on local/client machine
• Redirect Youtube video url, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Skype, tel protocol from remote session to local / client machine
• Run a program / command line (executable only) with parameters on local/client machine (like Citrix Local App Access).
• Redirect medical x-ray Image Viewer like Apteryx (https://www.planetdds.com/apteryx/) from Open Dental (or other RemoteApp) to display on local machine - see below for Open Dental details.
• Open a document file (PDF, Word, Excel, etc) with default associated program on the local/client machine (file must be accessible from local machine). If file is on the server, check our other program Remote File Transfer.
• Print a document file (PDF, Word, Excel, etc) on the default printer installed on the local/client machine
• Can be used with Remote Desktop Services, Citrix XenApp, XenDesktop, Microsoft Azure RemoteApp
• Run on latest Windows versions: Windows 10 - 11 / Server Windows 2008 to 2025.
• New! Sep 2024: support Snapdragon X ARM based Windows 11 Copilot+PC devices (in separated package)

Open Dental Integration (Custom Bridges)

Open Dental supports connecting to third-party imaging and x-ray viewers through its Custom Bridges framework — a generic, configurable way to launch an external program or web page and pass patient parameters to it. For practices running Open Dental on a Citrix or Remote Desktop Services server, Remote Executer is commonly used as the launch mechanism for that bridge, so the viewer opens on the local/client machine instead of on the server.

This works with imaging viewers such as VistaDent and Apteryx Web Image Viewer, and with most other x-ray/imaging systems configured as a Custom Bridge. If the viewer is web-based, Remote Executer can launch it as a hyperlink with the same patient parameters, instead of launching a local executable. The main purpose of this program is to open document file (Excel, Word, PDF) locally from a RemoteApp or Citrix session. Document file can be transfered (copied) only from the server to local PC within its remote session. There is no security risk to send file to machine other than the current connected local PC. 

Remote File Transfer is a utility program that can be used to open a document file (Excel, Word, PDF, etc) on client side from a RemoteApp / Citrix XenApp session. It transfers the file from the server (Citrix or Remote Desktop Services ) to the client (local) machine, then opens the file. This program can be used for these purposes:

• Open a document file (PDF, Word, Excel, etc) with default associated program on the local/client machine (file is on the remote server)
• Print a file on the default printer installed on local machine.
• Attach file(s) to a new Outlook email on local machine like Send to Mail recipient
• from MS Word via a macro, provide Send document as attachment to mail client on local machine
• RemoteApp ERP programs like Microsoft Dynamic, SAP, Cosgnos reporting server can export to Excel / PDF and open file on the local machine
• Run on latest versions of Windows 10 - 11 / Server Windows 2008 - 2025.
• New! Sep 2024: support Snapdragon X ARM based Windows 11 Copilot+PC devices

This program can be also configured to provide Content Redirection feature like with Citrix XenApp for any type of file.
For example, from an Outlook email, when double clicking on an MS Word or PDF attached file, the file will be transferred to local machine and opened with the default associated program.

Remote Desktop Mailto for Remote Desktop Services (Terminal Server) and CITRIX is a utility program that can handle mailto command on the server and create a new Microsoft Outlook email on the client machine from a remote session on the RDSH Server or Citrix. This program can especially create email with file attachment, which was not possible with mailto command in almost other email client programs. Email content can be formatted with HTML code.

RDMailto version 1.0 (Freeware) can only attach file on the local machine to new email. File must exist on the local machine. This version works well on Windows 2008 R2 (recommended) and previous versions. It may work on Windows 2012-2016 as well.

RDMailto version 2.5 (not available in free version - send an email to request a demo version) can transfer file from server to client and attach to new email
RDMailto version 2.6 available for both RDS and CITRIX. A special version for VMware Horizon View is also available.

RDMailto version 2.8 (New): By default, files will be transferred from server to %TEMP% folder on local machine before being attached. The new version 2.8 adds option to specify the target folder on the local machine where files will be copied. Note that for the security reason, files that were transferred from the server will be removed after being attached to the new email.

USE CASES:
- Send invoice pdf file generated on Citrix/RDSH server using local Outlook email. Can be used with a batch utility for multiple emails. Sent emails will be saved in Outlook Sent folder.
- From custom application (or a .bat / script file) on Remote Server, call this program to create email on local machine with attachment. Email content can be pre-formatted with HTML code.

Virtual Channel COM Service Framework for Remote Desktop Services (Terminal Server) / Citrix solution is a set of drivers and components that provide the communication service between applications on the server and COM objects on the client side.

In the real world, applications running on the Terminal Server / Citrix usually need to make call to the client machine to perform special tasks as controlling specific devices (ticket printer, cash drawer, MSR, MICR, Electronic Signature Pads - all Topaz models, etc) or launching / connecting-to an application instance on the client machine (Active X programs as Word, Excel, Outlook, etc).

Currently, there is no solution for this specific need. Application developers for Citrix / Terminal Services solutions usually have to spent a lot of time to do research on a portable solution for this problem.

Virtual Channel COM Service Framework is designed to provide application developers an easy, efficient, portable and flexible way to archive the most tedious tasks of communication between the server and the client machine. Application developers do not need to know how the function call is forwarded to the client side, and how the result is received and if an error occurs, all information is sent back to the caller as in a normal program.

Virtual Channel COM Service Framework provides VB developers the quickest way to do their work as they usually do with Visual Basic in the world of COM based development. For C++ developer (or other programming language supporting COM as Delphi, PowerBuilder and .NET), the framework provides a COM based standard set of methods for normal uses. This framework has been tested and used with Visual Basic, Visual C++, PowerBuilder, Delphi and .NET.

Virtual Channel COM Service Framework is available for both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows.

A special version of Virtual Channel COM Service Framework supports VMware PCoIP protocol using in VMware Horizon View. 

Remote App Express is a complementary utility application for Remote Desktop Services. This application provides an easier and quicker (express) way to open a document file with RemoteApp. From local machine:

• Right click on a Word file (or any document file like Excel, PDF, PowerPoint, Visio, AutoCad, etc)  and Open it with default associated program on RDSH server
• Double click on a file and the file will be opened with default associated program on RDSH server via  RemoteApp Express program.
• Unlike File Type Associations feature of RemoteApp on Windows 2008 and Windows 2012 that requires each file type must be associated with a RemoteApp RDP file on the local machine (.docx with MSWord.rdp, .xlsx with Excel.rdp, etc), RemoteApp Express uses a common launcher program on the server side, so there is only 1 .RDP file to distribute on the local (client machine)
• Compatible up to Windows 2012 Server.

* Only specific file type allowed by Administrator configured on the server can be opened for preventing security issue. Only document file type (no executable file type) can be opened.

Remote Application Center is a simple program that permits controlling access to applications installed on Terminal Server. Applications are published on the server and user can run it directly from shortcut on the client side. Compatible with Windows 2000/2003 and Windows 2008 with Remote Desktop Services.
